 1.It’s like a painter

Spreading the various colors:

Delusion grasps different forms

But the elements have no distinctions.

2.In the elements there’s no form.

And no form in the elements;

And yet apart from the elements

No form can be found.

--

3.In the mind is no painting,

In painting there is no mind;

Yet not apart from mind

Is any painting to be found.

--

4.That mind never stops.

Manifesting all forms,

Countless, inconceivably many,

Unknown to one another.

--

5.Just as a painter

Can’t know his own mind

Yet paints due to the mind,

So is the nature of all things.

--

6.Mind is like an artist,

Able to paint the worlds:

The five clusters all are born thence;

There’s nothing it doesn’t make.

--

7.As is the mind, so is the Buddha;

As the Buddha, so living beings:

Know that Buddha and mind

Are in essence inexhaustible.

--

8.If people know the actions of mind

Create all the worlds,

They will sec the Buddha

And understand Buddha’s true nature.

--

9.Mind does not stay in the body,

Nor body stay in mind:

Yet it’s able to perform Buddha-work

Freely, without precedent.

--

10.If people want to really know

All Buddhas of all times,

They should contemplate the nature of the cosmos:

All is but mental construction.

Ðại-chủng không sai khác.

Trong sắc không đại-chủng

Mà có được màu sắc.

3.Trong tâm, không màu vẽ
Trong màu vẽ, không tâm
Nhưng chẳng rời nơi tâm
Mà có được màu vẽ.

4.Tâm đó luôn chẳng trụ
Vô-lượng khó nghĩ bàn
Thị-hiện tất cả sắc
Ðều riêng chẳng biết nhau.

5.Ví như nhà họa-sư
Chẳng biết được tự-tâm
Mà do tâm nên vẽ
Các pháp-tánh như vậy.

6.Tâm như nhà họa-sư
Hay vẽ những thế-gian
Ngũ-uẩn từ tâm sanh
Không pháp gì chẳng tạo.

7.Như tâm, Phật cũng như vậy
Như Phật, chúng-sanh đồng
Phải biết Phật cùng tâm
Thể-tánh đều vô-tận.

8.Nếu người biết tâm hành
Bảo khắp các thế-gian
Người này thời thấy Phật
Rõ Phật chơn-thật-tánh.

9.Tâm chẳng trụ nơi thân
Thân chẳng trụ nơi tâm
Mà làm được phật-sự
Tự-tại chưa từng có.

--

10.Nếu người muốn rõ biết
Tất cả Phật ba đời
Phải quán pháp-giới-tánh
Tất cả duy tâm tạo.
