Silence the angry man with love.
Silence the ill-natured man with kindness.

Silence the liar with truth.

Commentary by Master HSUAN HUA

Your physical body is like a house.
You must not take refuge in it, but rather take refuge with your own self-nature.
Everyone has the three Buddha-bodies within themselves, but because of their delusion they don’t know it.

Break through the clouds of illusion! It is just because you have not broken through them that you are deluded and have no wisdom.
But if you do away with troubles and ignorance and listen to a Clear-eyed Advisor’s explanation of the orthodox Teaching, your own nature will reflect all the dharmas, like a luminous crystal.

Those who see their nature and know their original mind are like a clear sky:

The heart calm–
All worries go away;
The mind still–
Heaven has no clouds.

The Heart of Prajna Paramita Sutra

The Heart of Prajna Paramita Sutra

Translated by Tang Dharma Master of the Tripitaka Hsüan-Tsang on imperial command.
When Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva was practicing the profound prajna paramita, he illuminated the five skandhas and saw that they are all empty, and he crossed  beyond all suffering and difficulty.
Shariputra, form does not differ from emptiness;  emptiness does not differ from form. Form itself is emptiness; emptiness itself is form. So, too, are feeling, cognition, formation, and consciousness.

Shariputra, all dharmas are empty of characteristics.  They are not produced. Not destroyed, not defiled, not  pure, and they neither increase nor diminish.
Therefore, in emptiness there is no form, feeling, cognition,  formation, or consciousness; no eyes, ears, nose, tongue,  body, or mind; no sights, sounds, smells, tastes, objects of  touch, or dharmas; no field of the eyes, up to and  including no field of mind-consciousness; and no  ignorance or ending of ignorance, up to and including no  old age and death or ending of old age and death. There is no suffering, no accumulating, no extinction, no way, and  no understanding and no attaining.
Because nothing is attained, the Bodhisattva, through  reliance on prajna paramita, is unimpeded in his mind.  Because there is no impediment, he is not afraid, and he leaves distorted dream-thinking far behind. Ultimately Nirvana!
All Buddhas of the three periods of time attain  Anuttarasamyaksambodhi through reliance on prajna  paramita. Therefore, know that prajna paramita is a  great spiritual mantra, a great bright mantra, a supreme  mantra, an unequalled mantra. It can remove all  suffering; it is genuine and not false. That is why the  mantra of prajna paramita was spoken. Recite it like this:
Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha!
"People smelt metal by burning the dross out of it in order to make high quality implements.
It is the same with people who study the Way:
First they must get rid of the defilements in their minds;
Then their practice becomes pure.”

Section  38
“Birth Leads to Death

The Buddha asked a Shramana (monk), "How long is the human life span?"
He replied, "A few days."
The Buddha said, "You have not yet understood the Way."

He asked another Shramana (monk), "How long is the human life span?"
The reply was, "The space of a meal."
The Buddha said, "You have not yet understood the Way."
He asked another Shramana, "How long is the human life span?"
He replied, "The length of a single breath."
The Buddha said, "Excellent. You have understood the Way."
Section  22
Wealth and Sex Cause Suffering

The Buddha said,
"People are unable to renounce WEALTH and SEX.
They are just like a child who cannot resist HONEY on the blade of a knife.
Even though the amount is not even enough for a single meal's serving, he will lick it and risk cutting his tongue in the process."

Hsuan Hua master's quotations

“Instruments such as the television, radar, the radio, the telephone and the telegraph also have the functions of the penetrations of the heavenly eye and the heavenly ear, but those are manmade spiritual penetrations, not natural ones.
The spiritual penetrations gained through Chan meditation are effortless and carefree in their functioning.
All you have to do is want to and you can obtain such states through cultivation.”

“KINDNESS, COMPASSION, JOY and GIVING are the basis of cultivation.

One can never have enough of the qualities of KINDNESS, COMPASSION, JOY and GIVING- the more the better.

KINDNESS makes others HAPPY.

COMPASSION eradicates SUFFERING.

JOY refers to a happy state of MIND.

GIVING involves wanting to make living beings happy, to alleviate their suffering and to help those in need.”

quotes of Hsuan Hua master

Q: What is BLISS? What is SOUL? How do we MAKE CONTACT with our SOUL?

Hsuan Hua’s Answer: I've already talked about what is BLISS.
Not FIGHTING is bliss. Not being GREEDY is bliss.
Not being SELFISH, not pursuing personal advantage, and not LYING are bliss.
When you're fighting, you expend a lot of effort and brainpower thinking about how to fight people, which is quite miserable.
When you're GREEDY, you can't SLEEP at night and the food tastes bland to you.
That's MISERY. When you search for things outside, including men pursuing women and women pursuing men, you forget everything.
You don't even care about your parents.
You only know to go after the object of your affection. That's misery.
Being SELFISH, you always do things that hurt others and help yourself.
Pursuing self-advantage means that you only know about benefiting yourself but not others.
LYING is misery too. Being DISCONTENT is misery.
Being content is BLISS. I've already said that earlier.
